Cinemas, Theaters, Venues, Galleries and Exhibitions are opening up again to serve an entirely different world. While most of us have been locked in, many boundaries have been expanded relative to new art forms, modes for creative consumption and technological breakthroughs for creative trade and transaction. It is forcing society to consider what is real and what is ‘unreal’ in the creative world.

The emergence of the NFT (non-fungible tokens) is one great example of new and ‘unreal’ digital art. Beyond the question of what ownership of an NFT really means, we’re finding that there’s a heavy cost related to energy use and economic disparity.

It is interesting to consider if we have a different perspective on all things creative now, having experienced a prolonged period of virtual interaction, and have we changed in terms of what we expect from art? What do we now think is valuable, and how much are we willing we pay to have or experience an artwork?

The complex issue surrounding digital tools for creation, Bitcoin/blockchain apps for transaction and certification and evolving technologies for production and distribution must surely play into the equation of understanding, worth, value and long-term feasibility for all creative domains.

Michelangelo said ‘If people only knew how hard I worked to gain my mastery. It wouldn't seem so wonderful at all.’

So if art can be made easily, is there anything left at all? What is art anymore?

Join us to discuss:

  • Art, experience and the intrinsic joy found through human or machine-made creations.
  • The limitless nature of both real and unreal works.
  • Personal value structure to evaluate the real and unreal in a rapidly changing art world.
